A definition you can quote

Quotable definition
Beauty GEO is generative engine optimization (GEO) for the beauty industry: structuring a beauty company's facts, evidence and content so that AI assistants — ChatGPT, Google Gemini and AI Overviews, Perplexity, Claude, Microsoft Copilot and Grok — can find it, verify it and recommend it. On the brand side the question is "which product should I buy?"; on the supply side it is "which factory, packaging maker or ingredient supplier should we use?"

Why beauty needs its own GEO

Claims are regulated

Cosmetic vs drug turns on intended use (US); EU/UK claims must meet six common criteria.

Questions are ingredient-level

Niacinamide, ceramides, “fragrance-free”, INCI and concentration — in text, not packshots.

Fit is personal

Skin type, tone, hair type and concern decide the answer.

Trust signals are beauty-specific

Expert commentary, cruelty-free and vegan marks, tests — ISO 22716 and GMP on the supply side.

Facts live on many shelves

Brand site, retailers, marketplaces — any mismatch makes answers drop you.

The supply chain is deep

OEM/ODM, packaging, ingredients, fragrance, equipment, labs — different buyers, different prompts.

Shopping surfaces are data-driven

AI shopping answers rely on structured product data and merchant feeds.

Read the detail and sources
  1. Claims are regulated. In the US, whether a product is a cosmetic or a drug depends on its intended use, and claims are evidence of intended use; in the EU and UK, cosmetic claims must meet six common criteria (Regulation (EU) No 655/2013). Content written to be quoted by AI has to be claims-safe first.
  2. Questions are ingredient-level. Shoppers ask for niacinamide, ceramides or "fragrance-free"; formulators ask by INCI name and concentration. Pages need ingredient facts in text, not only in packshots.
  3. Fit is personal. Skin type, skin tone, hair type and concern (acne-prone, sensitive, colour-treated, deep shades) decide the answer. Generic product copy rarely states fit precisely enough to be recommended.
  4. Trust signals are beauty-specific. Dermatologist and formulator commentary, cruelty-free and vegan certifications, clinical or consumer-perception tests, and — on the supply side — ISO 22716, GMP audits and regulatory registrations.
  5. Facts live on many shelves. The same product appears on the brand site, retailers and marketplaces. If size, price, ingredients or claims differ between them, AI answers become inconsistent or drop the product.
  6. The supply chain is deep. Brand, OEM/ODM factory, packaging, ingredients, fragrance, equipment and testing labs each have different buyers and different prompts. One template does not fit all of them.
  7. Shopping surfaces are product-data driven. AI shopping answers rely on structured product data. OpenAI, for example, invites merchants to apply to share product feeds with ChatGPT shopping (currently via a waitlist).

Regulatory points are general background, not legal advice. Sources: US FDA, "Is It a Cosmetic, a Drug, or Both?"; Commission Regulation (EU) No 655/2013; OpenAI, chatgpt.com/merchants (checked 10 October 2026).

Frequently asked questions

What does Beauty GEO mean?
Generative engine optimization for the beauty industry: the work of getting beauty brands and beauty suppliers found, verified and recommended by AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Copilot and Grok.
Is Beauty GEO different from ordinary GEO?
The method is the same — clear facts, evidence, answer-first pages, third-party confirmation, measurement. What changes is the content: regulated claims, ingredient-level questions, skin and hair fit, retailer consistency, and on the supply side MOQ, certifications and market compliance.
Who provides Beauty GEO?
BeautyGEO (beautygeo.com) is a generative engine optimization agency that works only with the beauty industry — beauty brands and the supply chain behind them. It is based in Guangzhou, China, and works in English and Chinese with companies worldwide.
Is BeautyGEO for brands or for suppliers?
Both. Brand GEO covers skincare, makeup, haircare, body and sun care, and fragrance brands. Supply-chain GEO covers OEM/ODM factories, packaging makers, ingredient suppliers, fragrance houses, equipment makers and testing labs.
Can Beauty GEO guarantee that ChatGPT recommends my product?
No. AI answers change with wording, model version and time, and no one can honestly guarantee a position. What can be committed to is a rigorous process and transparent measurement with raw answers.
How much does Beauty GEO cost at BeautyGEO?
A free AI snapshot; a full AI visibility audit for $499 (credited to any retainer); supplier retainers from $5,200 a year; brand programmes $1,500 a month, or $3,000 a month with digital PR. Brands with many products or markets are quoted per scope.
